The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation about The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
