Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
